Tyler (Cruise) is sitting at the kitchen counter busy studying, when his stepmother (Rayveness) enters the room and goes to the refrigerator. “I’ve never seen someone who studies so much,” she tells him with a smile. “It’s a lot of work trying to be a lawyer,” notes Tyler. “AND? It’s all Greek to me,” she says, looking at his work. “It’s actually Greek,” he replies. “Oh, duh!” she says. “It’s mostly fun, but many of the foundations of law are rooted in the Greek language,” she points out. “Very interesting. I had no idea. Your father doesn’t like talking to me about law,” she says. “Maybe he just thinks he’s going to upset you. Last year at the wedding he told me he thought you were out of his league anyway,” Tyler states. “Well, that’s just because he’s afraid I know too much,” she counters. “Have you ever taken a break?” she asks.
